Bihar Govt sanctions Rs 500 crore for Phase 1 of Patna Metro Rail project

Patna, India (Urban Transport News): The Bihar Urban Development Authority of Bihar Government has sanctioned Rs 500 crore for Phase 1 of the Patna Metro Rail project on December 17, 2021. From Hanuary 2022, the amount will be used to compensate villagers whose land has been acquired for the project. The central government has given Rs 424 cores for this project so far.

The state government has acquired 76 acres land for the project and a total of Rs 726 crore will be given to the land owners. Details of the sanctioned amount were given by Satish Kumar Singh, special secretary of Bihar Housing Development Authority and Bihar Urban Development Authority.

He has also informed accountant general of Bihar about the same.

To commence construction work of Phase 1 corridors, Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited (PMRC) is awaiting fund from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). JICA agreed to provide financial support for the implementation of the Corridor 1 (Danapur to Khemnichak via Meethapur) and Corridor 2 (Patna Junction to ISBT via Gandhi Maidan) of Patna Metro Rail Project. The construction work of corridor 2 is likely to start from new year i.e. January 2022.

The PMRC and JICA had several meetings in November on land acquirement for ISBT Patna Metro Rail Depot and other metro stations. “The company may submit the final report and issue the statement for providing loan of Rs 8,019.4 crore after the next meeting this month. As soon as we get the funds, construction of metro stations and networks will begin,” an official said.
