Bihar Govt approves revised alignments of Patna Metro Rail corridors

Patna, India (Urban Transport News): The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has made extensive changes in the alignments of Patna Metro Rail corridors. Now the proposal to build Golf Club Station in Corridor 1 of the Patna Metro has been canceled. While Corridor 2, Premchandra Rangshala, NMCH, Kumhara Park and Gandhi Setu Metro stations will not be built.

Now metro stations will be built in Ramakrishna Nagar, Khemnikchak and Jaganpura. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday approved the new alignments of 32.12 km long metro rail corridor proposed by Municipal Development and Housing Department as suggested by DMRC. The project cost will increase by Rs 179 crore after the change. As per the revised alignments, there will be a total of 13 elevated and 13 underground stations in the entire metro project (Phase I).

Changes in Corridor-1

In Corridor-1, an elevated line will be constructed on Bailey Road from Danapur Kendriya Vidyalaya to Sagunamod and Bellerod Digha-AIIMS Road Canal. While on Jawaharlal Nehru Marg (Bailey Road), the underground line from Gola Road will be up to Patna Junction via Mithapur bypass.

Change in Corridor-2

Now, Corridor-2 will be underground rather than elevated from Patna Junction. On this route, there will be Dak Bungalow, AIR, JP Golmber, Convention Center, PMCH, Patna University. The new station will now be built at Moinulhaq Stadium and Malahipark. Anand Kishore, Secretary, Department of Urban Development and Housing said that during the excavation of the underground line, representatives of the Bihar Heritage Development Committee will also be present. He said that the archaeological heritage found during the construction of the underground line will be preserved and displayed in the museum.

JICA to fund Rs 5,400 crore loan

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has agreed to give a loan of Rs 5,400 crore for the construction of Phase I of Patna Metro Rail corridors. The loan agreement signing formalities will be completed soon. Suresh Sharma, Minister of Urban Development and Housing said:

After the finalization of Patna Metro's agreement, the way has been cleared to start construction work for the metro. In the first phase, there is a preparation to construct the metro line from Rajendra Nagar Terminal to ISBT.

A meeting of officials of Patna Metro Rail Corporation and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation conducted on Wednesday before issuing the tender related to the construction process. A meeting is proposed between Anand Kishore, Secretary, Urban Development and Housing Department, and DMRC Director Works Daljit Singh. After this, a final decision will be taken to start the construction of the Priority Corridor. Construction of the metro line from Rajendra Nagar to New ISBT in the Priority Corridor is proposed.
