Bhopal, India (Urban Transport News): To boost public transport facilities, the Madhya Pradesh government announced the allocation of Rs 262 crores in the state budget for Bhopal and Indore Metro Rail projects. Finance Minister Jagdish Devda on Tuesday presented a budget of Rs 2.41 lakh crore for 2021-22 in the Assembly
In the previous years, the government had made provision for Rs 200 crore and Rs 100 crore in the budget for 2019-20 and 2020-21 respectively. In the last three years, the government has expended a total of Rs 475 crores on metro rail projects. However, there is no much progress in Bhopal and Indore Metro Rail projects.
Sources said that only 5% of the civil construction work has finished in Indore and 25% of it is completed in Bhopal. The government has now extended the target date for finishing the civil construction work for next year, earlier it was March 31, 2021.
Bhopal-based construction firm Dilip Buildcon Ltd is doing civil construction work for Bhopal and Indore Metro Rail Project. German consultancy firm DB Engineering and Consulting is handling the consulting work related to the Metro projects in both cities. The work is suffering due to differences in consultant and civil contractors.
Recently, Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) has invited global tenders for the construction of 7 elevated stations of the Ring Line of the Indore Metro Rail project. The construction work of viaducts for the same section was awarded to Dilip Buildcon Ltd.
