Bengaluru, India (Urban Transport News): The BEML Limited has completed the manufacturing and development of 42 new metro coaches for Bangalore Metro Rail Project. The new metro coaches have been developed against the Rolling Stock contract worth Rs 1,421 crore was awarded to BEML Limited by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) in March 2017. Under the scope of the contract, BEML Limited has to supply a total of 150 intermediate coaches to expand the existing 50 three-coach trains of BMRC into six coach trains.
In its latest tender notice, BEML Limited has invited bids from reputed transporters having experience in the movement of engineering equipment through hydraulic/mechanical trailers by road for transportation of 42 nos of completely built Metro Coaches from BEML's Metro Coach Factory, CV Raman Nagar, Bangalore to Baiyyappanahalli and Peenya depot of BMRCL. According to the contract, Out of the 150 new coaches, 63 will be supplied to the Purple Line (Challegata-Whitefield) for converting 21, three-coach trains into six-coach trains while 87 will be supplied to the Green Line (BIEC-Anjanapura Township) for converting 29, three-coach trains into six coach trains.
The approximate dimensions of one metro car are 22 metres (length), 3 meters (width), and 4 metres heights at the rail level. The approximate tare weight of one metro coach is 40 tonnes. The composition of the existing three coach trains is combined with two Driving Motor Cars (DMC) in both ends and one Trailer Car (TC) in the middle. After converting these 3-coach trains into 6-coach trains the new composition will be two DMC, two TC and two Motor Cars (MC) and the new arrangement will be DMC-TC-MC + MC-TC-DMC.
BEML had also supplied the first 150 coaches (50 trains with 3-coaches) for the Phase I of Bangalore Metro Rail project. On 14 February 2018, BEML Limited has delivered the first six coach train to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation, and the same was introduced on the Purple Line on 23 June 2018.
