Three bidders submit bids to construct Line 4 & 5 of Chennai Metro Rail Project

Chennai, India (Urban Transport News): Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) today unveiled the names of three construction firms who have submitted their bids to construct Line-4 and Line-5 of the Chennai Metro Rail project under the Civil Contract Package C4-ECV-01.

The technical bids were opened today. According to CMRL, the following three bidders have submitted their bids in the tendering process:-

  • Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T)
  • NCC Limited
  • Hindustan Construction Company – KEC International (HCC-KEC) JV

The tender was invited in July 2020 with an estimated cost of work Rs 800 crore. The scope of work includes the construction of Elevated Metro Stations at Power House, Vadapalani, Saligramam, Avichi School, Alwartiru Nagar, Valasaravakkam, Karambakkam, Alapapakkam Junction, Porur Junction & Associated Viaduct from Chainage 10027.102 to Chainage 17982.240 & all associated works for Phase 2 of Chennai Metro Rail project.

After the technical evaluation of bids, CMRL will open the financial bids and the lowest bidders will be awarded the contract to complete the work in 1080 days. This contract package is part of 26.09 km Line-4 (Light House – Poonamallee) and 47 km Line-5 (Madhavaram – Sholinganallur) of Phase 2 of the Chennai Metro Rail project.

The 118.9 km Phase 2 project of the Chennai Metro will be partly financed by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) as the bank is agreed to provide a loan of Rs 2,700 crore ($356.65 million) for the development of Line-4 (Light House – Poonamallee).
