Systra-led JV awarded ₹268 cr General Consultancy Contract for Surat Metro Phase 1

Surat, India (Urban Transport News): Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (GMRCL) on Monday awarded the General Consultancy contract worth Rs 268 crores to the consortium of Systra MVA, EGIS Rail SA and AECOM Asia Company Limited for providing General Engineering consultancy services for Phase 1 of Surat Metro Rail Project.

The Surat Metro project is funded by the French Development Agency (AFD) and the German development bank KfW. SYSTRA Group is the Lead Partner of the joint venture with EGIS Rail SA and AECOM Asia Company Limited. The consortium will provide its services for 42 months.

The tender for this contract was floated in EOI form in April 2020. A total of 6 consortia had submitted their application to participate in the bidding process. Financial bids were opened in June 2021 in which SYSTRA – AECOM – Egis JV placed a bid of Rs 268 crore – making them the lowest bidder after applying the 70:30 Quality and Cost Based Selection (QCBS) method.

The services provided by SYSTRA’s teams in India will cover Review of the Detailed Project Report (DPR), Design review, Procurement Assistance for Civil and System works, Construction Supervision for Civil & System Works, System Integration, Overall Project Management, Safety & Quality Check, and Testing & Commissioning.

SYSTRA is also executing a GEC contract for Ahmedabad Metro Phase I for GMRCL, inaugurated in March 2019. This project started in 2015 and completion is expected in 2022.

Surat Metro is comprised in two corridors with a combined length of 40.35 km and a total of 38 stations. Corridor 1 will connect Sarthana to Dream City with 6 underground and 14 elevated stations. And corridor 2 will connect Bhesan to Saroli with 18 elevated stations.
