Nagpur Metro to open Lokmanya Nagar-Sitabuldi section on January  28

Nagpur, India (Urban Transport News): The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha Metro) today announced that metro train services between the Lokmanya Nagar-Sitabuldi Interchange section of Aqua Line will be flagged off on 28th January 2020 at 10.15 am. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Chief Minister of Maharashtra (through video link) and Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Housing & Urban Affairs, Civil Aviation, Commerce & Industry Hardeep Singh Puri will flag off the first metro train through a video link.

Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Nitin Gadkari; Secretary for Ministry for Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Durga Shankar Mishra; Urban Development and Public Works (Public Undertaking) Minister, Eknath Shinde; Home Minister, Anil Deshmukh; Energy Minister & District Guardian Minister, Dr. Nitin Raut; Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, Sports & Youth Welfare Minister, Sunil Kedar and other leaders along with Maha Metro officials will also be present in the event to be held at Subhash Nagar Metro Station, Hingna Road, Nagpur.

The Aqua Line stretches from Prajapati Nagar to Lokmanya Nagar on the East-West Corridor of Nagapur Metro Rail project. The Lokmanya Nagar-Sitabuldi Interchange stretch in Reach III will cover a distance of 11 km with 6 Metro stations. The stations which will be opened to the public are - Lokmanya Nagar, Bansi Nagar, Vasudev Nagar, Rachana Ring Road, Subhash Nagar, Ambazari Lake View, LAD Square, Shankar Nagar, Institute of Engineers, Jhansi Rani Square and Sitabuldi Interchange.

The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CMRS) has already issued safety clearance for this stretch for commercial operations. This stretch will connect academic institutions, industrial areas and other high-density residential colonies. Maha Metro Managing Director, Dr. Brijesh Dixit has urged people to attend the event in large numbers. The 13.5 km, out of 22.29 km of North-South corridor (Orange line) opened for public in March last year. The metro trains are operational on 11 metro stations between Sitabulldi Interchange and Kahpari.
