Delhi Metro starts services on Gurgaon Rapid Metro link from October 22

New Delhi (Urban Transport News): After a delay of one week in completing handing over and taking over formalities of the operation and maintenance of Rapid Metro Gurgaon, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) finally commenced the metro services on 11.6 km long Rapid Metro link from the night of October 22. Through its official twitter handle, DMRC said that it will take over the operations and maintenance of the Rapid Metro Link at Gurugram from the night of 22nd October 2019. With this takeover, the total network of Delhi Metro has now become 389 km with 285 stations, including the NOIDA-Greater NOIDA (Aqua line) corridor.

"DMRC is committed to providing the best possible services. Therefore, the adequate staff has already been deployed to maintain a smooth and trouble-free transition of service. Passenger services on this 11.6 km long corridor will continue to operate as per the earlier time table", added in another tweet. Talking about the time-table of trains, it has been said that the train services on the corridor start at 6 am in the morning from Sector 55-56 station and Sikenderpur Station with a frequency of 4.30 minutes during morning peak hours and 5.15 minutes during evening peak hours.

The last revenue train service departs at 10 pm from Sector 55-56 station. After completing the handing over and taking over formalities, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Managing Director Dr. Mangu Singh took a journey on the Rapid Metro today with officials from the Haryana Government and DMRC. Presently, Gurgaon Rapid metro link covers a total of 11 metro stations namely Sector 55-56, Sector 54 Chowk, Sector 53-54, Sector 42-43, Phase -1, Sikanderpur, Phase-2, Phase-3, Moulsari Avenue, IndusInd Bank Cybercity, Vodafone Belvedere Towers. The total average daily ridership on the rapid metro link is around 60,000. Due to low footfall and high expenditure, the earlier concessionaire Rapid Metro Gurgaon Limited (RMGL) had expressed its inability to run the metro in Gurugram.

After the intervention of Punjab and Haryana High Court, the Haryana Government signed a Memorandum of Undertaking (MoU) with DMRC on September 17 to hand over the operation and maintenance of Rapid Metro link as DMRC is already operating metro services on 285 km network in Delhi-NCR.
