Trial run on Mumbai Metro 2A and 7 lines will commenced from Sept 2020

Mumbai, India (Urban Transport News): The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) which is implementing the Metro 2A and 7 corridors of Mumbai Metro Rail network informed that the first metro trial run on both lines will likely to commence in September 2020. Updating the recent development, Metropolitan Commissioner R A Rajeev said:

Trial run on two Metro corridors — Metro 7 that connects Andheri East to Dahisar East, and Metro 2A that connects D N Nagar to Dahisar — will commence in the first week of September 2020 after the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) receives its first prototype rake by July next year.

“After getting the first set of rake, we will finalise the final work test. And then from the first week of September 2020 trial run on both the Metro corridors will begin. The two Metro corridors will become operational on the same day in December next year, he added. According to recent updates shared by MMRDA, the civil construction work on the two Metro corridors, which commenced in 2016, is near completion.

The civil work, as well as signaling and electrification work on both the Metro corridors, will be completed by March 2020. The work to lay tracks that had started in June this year is also in the final stage. Civil works on the other three metro lines viz. Metro 4, Metro 4A and Metro 6 are also progressing at a brisk pace. Trial runs on these three Metro lines namely DN Nagar to Mandale (Metro 2B), Wadala-Thane-Kasarvadavali (Metro 4) and Swami Samarth Nagar-Vikhroli (Metro 6) will begin from December 2021.

Work on another two metro lines Metro 5 (Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan) and Metro 9 (Dahisar-Mira Bhayandar-Andheri East-International Airport) already started this year and are expected to go for trial runs by April 2024. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is implementing the all metro lines (except Metro 3) in the Mumbai region.
