Maharashtra approves Thane Metro Rail Project worth Rs 13,095 crores

Thane (Urban Transport News): The Maharashtra State cabinet chaired by the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday has approved 29 km long metro corridor for Thane city. This information has been shared by Thane Guardian minister Eknath Shinde. The total cost of Thane Metro Rail project will be Rs.13,095 crores. The 29 km long metro corridor under this project will be implemented by the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha-Metro) on behalf of the Thane Municipal Corporation. According to statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office it has been said that the Thane Metro project will take four years to be completed and will be built at a cost of Rs. 13,095 crores. Out of the 29 km, 2.2 km will be underground and the rest will be elevated. Guardian Minister of Thane Eknath Shinde said that the Maharashtra cabinet has approved the proposal of Thane Metro and it will help decongest the densely populated areas of the city. According to the sources, this project will have 22 stations and is projected to have a daily ridership of 5.76 lakhs once commissioned and its fares will range from Rs.17 to Rs.104. The Thane Metro Rail will start from the New Thane metro station in the old city area and will connected to Wadala-Kasarvadavli Metro at two places, namely the New Thane station and Dongripada of the city. This will also have a link to the Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan Metro Line 5 of Mumbai Metro rail network at Majiwada junction. In the CMO statement, it has been said that the roofs of the metro stations have ample space and can fit about 10 lakh solar panels which will provide about 65 percent of the metro network's energy requirements. The Thane Metro Rail corridor is expected to not only help citizens travel to different ends of the city but also aid those travelling to the neighbouring cities through its inter modal system.
