State approves DPR of Rs 5,125 crore metro project to link Old Gurugram

Gurugram, India (Urban Transport News): The Haryana government cabinet has approved a revised detailed project report (DPR) which proposes a composite metro rail network without any interchange for Rapid Metro and HUDA City Centre of Delhi Metro. Now it has been sent to the Central Government for the final approval. The 31-km long metro rail network will have a total of 25 stations and the total project cost is pegged to Rs 5,125 crore. If everything Ok, then work on the extension of the metro line, connecting old and new Gurugram could begin by the first half of 2020 and will be completed by 2025. Commenting on the revised DPR, a senior Gurgaon Municipal Development Authority (GMDA) official said:

The 31-km metro line will be extended up to Rapid Metro station opposite Ambience Mall. Here, instead of making interchange point the metro will run on the same line as the Rapid Metro. The previous DPR had proposed six interchange points in the 25 new metro stations. That has been done away with. Except for these, there are no major changes in the revised plan.

“Parts of the plan had to be modified after RMGL’s exit. The new DPR has not introduced any big changes, only minor tweaks. The plan has been sent to the government for approval. It is too early to commit to a deadline, but work on the project is expected to begin soon", he added. In September this year, the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) had submitted the revised detailed project report (DPR) to Haryana Mass Rapid Transit Corporation (HMRTC) an subsequently the HMRTC board approved the same without any change.
