Chennai, India (Urban Transport News): The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) recently opened the technical bids for two contract packages for the construction of two metro depots at Madhavaram and Poonamallee for Phase 2 corridors of the Chennai Metro Rail Project.
Construction of metro train depot with administration & workshop buildings at Madhavaram Milk Colony include civil, MEP, roofing, signage, architectural finishes, STP, external drainage, internal roads, boundary wall and all associated works in Corridor-5 of Phase 2 of Chennai Metro Rail Project.
Tender for the above works was invited in February this year. The Madhavaram depot will be developed in approx. a 23-hectare area of land near Madhavaram Milk Colony. This depot will be used to stable, maintain and feed the trains for Corridor 5 of Chennai Metro.
Construction of Depot at Poonamallee including Structural Works, Architectural Finishes, Plumbing Works, Signages, Utility shifting & Boundary wall and all Associated works in Corridor-3 of Phase 2 of Chennai Metro Rail Project.
Tender for the above works was invited in January this year. The Poonamallee depot will be developed in approx. a 17-hectare area of land at the estimated cost of Rs 225 crores. This depot will be used to stable, maintain and feed the 24 (six-coach) metro trains for Corridor-4 of Chennai Metro.
