Safety inspection of Jhansi Rani metro station of Nagpur Metro conducted

Nagpur, India (Urban Transport News): The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) Janak Kumar Garg conducted a safety inspection of Jhansi Rani Square Metro Station of the Nagpur Metro project. The two-member team, including Garg, inspected the public amenities and other facilities provided at the metro station. A mock fire drill was also conducted during the officials’ visit to the station. The CMRS team expressed satisfaction at the facilities provided at the metro station.

The CMRS officials headed to Jhansi Rani Metro Station, one of the prominent Metro Stations of Reach-III of Aqua Line. The two-member team started their inspection with the escalators located on the Rani Jhansi Square metro station. Various safety norms of the escalators were tested during the inspection. CMRS along with other officials visited Station Control Room (SCR) and carried inspection of facilities provided there. They also interacted with the officials and employees deployed at the station. They also examined the signage put up at various locations of the Metro Station.

The security gadgets at the station were also reviewed by the CMRS team. A mock fire drill was also conducted in front of the officials. The fire drill was held to test the readiness of the staff and safety equipment to deal with emergencies like fire. The fire brigade and an ambulance were summoned as part of the exercise, which reached the "accident venue" within the stipulated period of 10 minutes. The CMRS officials also examined the pump room and fire hydrant as part of the drill. Jhansi Rani Square Metro Station is one of the prominent Metro Stations of Reach-III of Aqua Line.

Located on the busy North Ambazari Road, near Jhansi Rani Square, the Metro Station is of great importance as it is surrounded by commercial establishments, academic institutions, hospitals, cinema halls, malls, shops, bus depot. The entire East-West Corridor has been identified as 'Aqua Line' given its proximity to water bodies, along its stretch. The CMRS conveyed its sincere appreciation for the prompt response of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) officials for sending fire brigade and Lata Mangeshkar Hospital for the deputing ambulance. He also acknowledged the competence and knowledge of Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Staff of Maha Metro.

Maha Metro officials including Director (Project) Mahesh Kumar, Director (Rolling Stock & Systems) Sunil Mathur, ED (Reach-I) Devendra Ramtetkkar, ED (Electrical) Giridhari Paunikar, ED (Signal) JP Deharia, ED (Track) Naresh Gurbani, ED (Admin) Anil Kokate, GM (O&M) Sudhakar Urade, CPM (Reach-III) Rajdeep Bhattacharya and others were part of the Maha Metro team.
