Moscow opens nearly 124 km metro rail network in last 10 years

Moscow, Russia (Urban Transport News): The Transport Department of Moscow on May 25, 2021, informed that a total of 123.6 kilometers of Moscow Metro lines have been put in operation since 2011.

Over the past 10 years, 59 new stations have been built in Moscow Metro, and together with MCC (Moscow Centre Circle) – 90.

Withal, 11 depots were put into operation, of which six were new, and five were reconstructed. Four additional facilities were built: the second hall appeared at Moscow Metro stations Maryina Roscha, Mezhdunarodnaya and Petrovsko-Razumovskaya.

"The program to double the length of Moscow Metro lines, which was adopted in Moscow in 2011, is being implemented at an active pace: in 10 years, 123.6 kilometers of new lines were introduced, 178.5 kilometers, if we take into account the launch of the Moscow Central Circle (MCC). Moreover, if we take into account the first two routes of Moscow Central Diameters (MCD), which in fact act as new surface lines, the Moscow Metro system has grown by more than 300 kilometers," said Andrey Bochkarev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Urban Development Policy and Construction.

It was previously announced that, by the end of the year, the boring works at the Big Circle Line (BCL) will be fully completed.  The final construction of the BCL will end in 2022.

Works continue to extend the existing Moscow Metro lines: Line 1 to Novomoskovskaya station, Line 10 to Severnyi district, Line 8 – to Vnukovo, Line 3 – to Golyanovo, as well as the construction of new lines – in Kommunarka, Troitsk and Rublyovo-Arkhangelsk.
