Metro Neo is an ideal solution to urban mobility problems in India

Lucknow (Urban Transport News): Metro Neo serves to be a perfect mobility solution, especially in cities with high traffic density during peak hours, said Dr. Brijesh Dixit, Managing Director of Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha Metro) here today.

He was talking at a round table conference organized on the second day of the 12th Urban Mobility India conference on "Mass Transport for All" at Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Dixit said that such a project is ideal for cities with 'Peak Hour Peak Direction Traffic (PHPDT)' between 5,000 and 15,000.

The Metro Neo project is being executed for the first time in the country in Nasik. The cost of Metro Neo project is much less as compared to the conventional Metro Rail projects, he added. Metro Neo is an ideal solution to urban mobility problems in the country, Dr. Dixit observed. The state government has cleared Metro Neo project for Nasik and Maha Metro has been entrusted with the responsibility of executing this project. In November 2018, the state government had entrusted the responsibility of safe, comfortable and reliable transport solutions to Maha Metro.

The central government as exploring the measures to provide mass transport facilities for cities with a population of 20-30 lakh. After thinking of a number of options, the Union Government, on 21 August 2019, set up a committee chaired by Maha Metro MD Dr. Brijesh Dixit. The committee was entrusted with the responsibility of working on various aspects of providing a tyre-based metro service. The Maha Metro is also considering adopting the 'Metro Neo' concept for the 16-km long Nashik Phata-Chakan stretch.

The round table meeting was attended by Durga Shanker Mishra, Secretary, Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Rajendra Kumar Tiwari, Chief Secretary, Uttar Pradesh,  Prasanna Patwardhan, Director (Prasanna Purple), Dr. Axel Friedrich, ex-Head, German Environment Agency, Dr. R K Mishra, Chairman (Yulu Bikes) and others. The Metro Neo concept was well appreciated by one and all.
