The Metro Neo system is to be implemented in tier 2 or tier 3 Indian cities with over 8000PHPDT where the heavy metro is not viable. This document describes few technical requirements for such a system named Metro Neo which will be at a much lesser cost, rail-guided, rubber tyred electric coaches powered by overhead traction system running on a road slab (elevated/at-grade).

'MetroNeo' would also act as a feeder system to high capacity Metro in Tier 1 metropolitan cities and shall act as the main transport system in tier 2 or tier 3 Indian cities. In addition to less capital cost, the operation and maintenance cost of Metro neo would also be less making the system more viable. The proposed model envisages seeking offers from applicants for design, manufacture, supply, testing, commissioning of the tyred based electric bus running on the overhead equipment (OHE) and training of personnel (Metro Neo in Nashik) of Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd.

The criteria for the availability of Trolley Buses shall be detailed in the RFP document. The Contractor shall be responsible for design, manufacture, supply, testing, commissioning of tyred based electric bus running on OHE and training of personnel as per the contract.

Corridor 1: The 22 km route will connect Gangapur to Nashik Road Railway Station with 20 elevated/at grade stations.

Corridor 2: The 10 km route will connect Gangapur to Mumbai Naka with 10 elevated/at grade stations.

The estimated cost of the Nashik Metro Neo project is Rs 2,092 crores.
