J Kumar awarded Rs 1,308 crore contract for balance civil work of Mumbai Metro Line 2B

Mumbai, India (Urban Transport News): The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA)on May 28, 2021, issued a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) for a contract worth Rs 1,307.88 crores to J. Kumar Infraprojects Limited for completing the pending civil work of 12.824 km Mumbai Metro's Line 2B (DN Nagar – BKC) with 10 stations.

In November last year, J Kumar Infraprojects emerged as the lowest bidder among the other three bidders after the opening of financial bids of contract package L2B-C101 by MMRDA. The financial positions of each bidder were as under:

  • J Kumar Infraprojects Ltd: Rs 1,389.48 crores (L1)
  • Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T): Rs 1,399.00 crores (L2)
  • NCC Ltd: Rs 1,421.38 crores (L3)
  • Afcons Infrastructure Ltd: Rs 1,439.54 crores (L4)

The J Kumar Infraprojects had quoted about 19% higher value from the estimate i.e. 1,167.65 crores of MMRDA but after negotiation, the contractor agreed to complete the work at Rs 1,307.88 crores.

The scope of work includes part design and Construction of (Balance Works of Package CA04R) Elevated Viaduct and 10 Elevated Stations viz. ESIC Nagar, Prem Nagar, Indra Nagar, Nanavati Hospital, Khira Nagar, Saraswat Nagar, National College, Bandra, Income Tax Office & ILFS [excluding Architectural Finishing & Pre-Engineered Steel Roof Structure of Stations] from Chainage 34035.873m to Chainage 46860.384 of Line-2B (D N Nagar – Mandale) of Mumbai Metro Rail Project of MMRDA.

The tender (No. MMRDA/MMRP/L2B-C101) was reinvited in August 2020 with an estimated contract value of Rs 1,167.65 crore after terminating the contract earlier awarded to Simplex Infrastructures Ltd were terminated in January 2020 citing poor progress of work.

J Kumar Infraprojects has to complete the balance work in 30 months.
