HCC-KEC JV wins ₹1,122 cr civil contract for Corridor 5 of Chennai Metro Project

Chennai, India (Urban Transport News): Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) on September 5, 2021 has opened the financial bid for the contract package C5-ECV-03 for the construction of 11.61 km stretch of Corridor 5 (Puzhuthivakkam – Sholinganallur) of Phase 2 Chennai Metro Rail Project.

The consortium of Hindustan Construction Compnay and KEC International Limited (HCC-KEC JV) emerged as the lowest bidder other two civil contractors (bidders). The financial position of each bidder is as under:

  • HCC-KEC JV: Rs 1,122.02 crores (L1)
  • L&T Limited: Rs 1,149.39 crores (L2)
  • NCC Limited: Rs 1,290.70 crores (L3)

The scope of work includes construction of Elevated Viaduct of Approximately 11.61 km length from Ch: 33710 m to 45320 m between Puzhuthivakkam Metro Station (excluding) and beyond Elcot Metro station including Construction of 11 Nos (Eleven Numbers) of Elevated Stations at Madipakkam, Kilkattalai, Echangadu, Kovilambakkam, Vellakkal, Medavakkam Koot Road, Kamaraj Garden Street, Medavakkam Junction, Perumbakkam, Global Hospital and Elcot and all associated works in Corridor-5 of Chennai Metro Rail Project- Phase-2.

Tender for the above work was launched in November 2020 and technical bids were opened in June 2021. Now bids have been sent for evaluation by the tender commitee. If everything found according to contract terms, HCC-KEC JV will be awarded the contract to commence the construction work. The contractor will have to complete the work in 3 years from the date of issuance of letter pf acceptance (LoA) by CMRL.

Earlier, the HCC-KEC JV had awarded a contract worth Rs 1,147 crores for the construction of 8-km elevated viaducts and nine metro stations of Corridor 4 from Porur Junction to Poonamallee Bypass under Phase 2 of Chennai Metro Rail Project.

The 47 km long Corridor 5 of Chennai Metro will connect Madhavaram and Sholinganallur through 48 stations.
