CRRC delivers three more metro trainsets to Nagpur Metro Rail project

Nagpur, India (Urban Transport News): After commencing metro train services every 15 minutes and at the maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour, Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MetroMetro) has now increased its fleets to 13. "Of the total 13 metro trains, 8 rakes have been commissioned in MIHAN depot while 5 have been commissioned in HINGNA depot of Maha Metro", said in the press statement. Maha Metro received three more trains from the CRRC at Nagpur today.

According to officials, these 13 metro trains are sufficient for the proper and regular operation of train services with 15-minute frequency. However, other than the 13 number of trains (39 coaches), 2 additional rakes would arrive in the city in a week’s time. With this, the total number of trains with Maha Metro Nagpur would increase to 15 (45 coaches).

Chinese firm CRRC is manufacturing and supplying the trainsets for the Nagpur Metro rail project and these trains have been manufactured at CRRC, Dalian, China. The new trains recently received by the Maha Metro were brought through sea-route to the Chennai port and then transported to Nagpur by road. The trains were transported to Nagpur after taking due precautions.

The traffic norms on National and State Highways were duly taken into consideration during transportation. The Maha Metro has already launched services every 15 minutes in the Reach-I section between Khapri Metro Station and Sitabuldi Interchange. The trains operate at 80 km/h with the latest installed Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) signaling system. In all, 100 services are operational between the two Metro stations.

The 3-coach train has the highest level of automation and many ultra-modern facilities have been incorporated in it. The train with the 3-car composition of (DMC-TC-DMC) with a 25 kilovolts system and axle load of 16 tons in a unique design, has been introduced in India for the first time. Maha Metro Nagpur has set a benchmark for procuring trains with multiple features at the lowest rate.
