CMRL receives 4 bids for its twin tunnel package of Chennai Metro Line-3

Chennai, India (Urban Transport News): Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has received a total of four bids in each package against its two package civil tenders for the construction of a 21 km twin underground tunnel for line-3 (Madhavaram – SIPCOT) of the Chennai Metro Rail project.

The following construction firms/consortiums have submitted their bids against the contract package TU01 & TU02:

  • Larsen and Toubro Limited (L&T)
  • Tata Projects Limited
  • Gulermak Agir Sanayi Insaat ve Taahhut A.S.
  • Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co (Singapore) Pte Ltd – Woh Hup Pte Ltd JV

The tenders were invited in January 2020 and technical bids were opened on 31st October 2020. Financial bids for both packages will be opened soon after evaluating the technical bids by the CMRL.

Package TU01

  • Scope of Work: Construction of approximately 9 km twin bored tunnels from the TBM Retrieval Shaft near Venugopal Nagar (of Line-5) to Kellys Station, and the construction of diaphragm walls, entry/exit structures of Madhavaram Milk Colony Station, Murari Hospital Station, Ayanavaram Station and Purasaiwakkam High Road Station, including launching and retrieval shafts at the above stations.
  • Estimated Tender Value: Rs 1,800 crores

Package TU02

  • Scope of Work: Construction of approximately 12 km twin bored tunnels from Kellys Station to Taramani Road Junction and the construction of diaphragm walls, entry/exit structures of Chetpet station, Royapettah Government Hospital Station, Thiruvanmiyu Station, and part diaphragm wall of Greenways Road Station, including launching and retrieval shafts at the above stations.
  • Estimated Tender Value: Rs 2,500 crores

The 26.7 km underground section is part of 45.81 km corridor - 3 of the 118.9 km Phase 2 of the Chennai Metro Rail project. Corridor-3 will connect Madhavaram to SIPCOT-2 through 50 metro stations.
