BEML bags another Rs 501 crore Rolling Stock contract for Mumbai Metro Rail project

Bengaluru, India (Urban Transport News): Indian Public Sector Undertaking Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) on 22nd November 2020 announced that the compnay has received another contract worth Rs 501 crore for supply of additional 72 coaches (12 metro train sets) for Line 2B and Line 7 of Mumbai Metro Rail proejct. The Letter of Acceptance (LoA) was issued by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC).

In NSE Filing, BEML has said that the compnay has received variation order to contract 'MRS1' from DMRC, for additional 12 train sets of 6 cars each (total 72 cars) to operate on Line 2B and Line 7 of Mumbai Metro Rail project. The order is valued at Rs 501 crores (approx.) on equivalent INR basis. With this the total contract value has increased to Rs 4318 cr from the existing Rs 3,817 crore for supplies before August 2023.

It is pertinent to menion here that this order was issued by DMRC in reference to the original contract worth Rs 3,015 crore was awarded to BEML Limited in November 2018 for supply of 378 coach order (total 63 train-sets) to Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for operation on Line 2A and Line 7 of Mumbai Metro Rail Project.

In August 2019, DMRC had issued another order worth Rs 834 crore to BEML Limited for supply of 126 coach order (total 21 train-sets) to MMRDA for upcoming Line 2A and Line 7.

According to BEML Limited sources, the first train will be delivered to MMRDA by March 2021 as the both lines are targeted to open for public in May 2021.
